RecFishing Research, Development and Extension Plan 2024-2029

To address the pressing research needs of Australia’s recreational fishing sector, the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation and the Fishing Research and Development Corporation (FRDC) have partnered to develop the RecFishing Research, Research, Development and Extension Plan 2024-2029. This plan establishes research priorities and long-term sector goals to guide and optimize investments for the next five to ten years, ensuring that the diverse motivations and aspirations of Australia’s recreational fishers are well understood and meaningfully addressed through targeted research.

Six Areas of Impact have been identified in the RD&E plan aimed at securing a sustainable future for our recreational fishing sector including:

  1. Resilient fish stocks
  2. Effective representation
  3. Secure fisheries access
  4. Social licence
  5. Consistent funding and investment as well as human capacity
  6. Great fishing experiences

From these a long-term goal was developed:
